Manufacturing Process

At Quartzcoil, each coil is produced through a carefully controlled multi-stage manufacturing process designed to ensure precision, consistency, and quality. Key stages include looping, forming, taping, and pressing — each tailored to meet exact performance and dimensional specifications.

LOOPING

Looping

The wire is formed into loops that define the overall shape of the coil. Quartzcoil can handle loop lengths up to 4 meters, meeting the needs of even the most demanding projects.

Technology

Our system features a 20-drum de-reeler for smooth, continuous material feeding to ensure consistent loop formation. Paired with inline turn tape, it delivers accurate and consistent material coverage.

FORMING

Forming

The looped coils are shaped into their final geometry using NC (Numerical Control) equipment, ensuring each unit conforms exactly to design specifications.

Technology

Our NC-controlled coil and bar formers accommodate loop lengths up to 4 meters and support 2 to 70 pole configurations, offering repeatability and flexibility for a wide range of applications.

TAPING

Taping

Taping applies protective insulation to the formed coils. Quartzcoil offers the UK’s only fully automated end-to-end coil and bar taping system.

Technology

We use a fully automated 6-axis robotic system capable of taping up to 10 meters in length. For additional flexibility, we also use BCT handheld tape heads in various sizes.

PRESSING

Pressing

Pressing sets the coil’s straight section and cures the insulation, ensuring mechanical integrity and long-term durability. It ensures tight dimensional tolerances, excellent mechanical bonding, and high repeatability — essential for high-performance and large-scale coils.

Technology

Quartzcoil operates four PLC-controlled presses up to 6 meters in length. Each press features zoned temperature control for consistent curing and precise shaping.
